Kids Climbing Festival Event Overview

The Kids Climbing Festival is a family-friendly event for children ages 5 to 14 who are curious about indoor rock climbing and looking for an exciting and affordable weekend activity. For just $10, each child will enjoy a one-hour climbing session on our 40 foot tall top rope walls, guided and supported by our trained Gravity Vault staff. Climbing sessions begin every 30 minutes starting at 10am, with the final session at 1:30pm.

In addition to climbing, kids will take part in fun, climbing-themed games and activities that introduce them to basic climbing skills and boost their confidence. They’ll also get to try out our interactive computer-generated climbing wall. All activities are hosted in our specialized kids areas, known as the Party Wall, which features bright, playful climbing holds shaped like animals, letters, and more to keep the experience fun and engaging.

No prior experience is required and all climbing equipment is included in the event fee. Our friendly and professional staff will ensure each child climbs safely while having an unforgettable time. It’s a great opportunity for families to experience indoor climbing without a long-term commitment or private lesson.

Climbing Activities Included

The event draws inspiration from the most popular games and skill-builders featured in our Kids Climbing Classes and Summer Camp programs. During each child’s one-hour climbing session, they’ll be guided through activities designed to be both fun and educational.

Top Rope Climbing introduces young climbers to harnesses, ropes, and the teamwork that makes climbing unique, all while climbing on our kid-friendly top rope walls under the guidance of our certified staff belayers.

Climbing Games keep kids active and entertained as they move around the walls. These playful, movement-based activities help improve coordination, balance, and confidence in a relaxed setting.

Intro to Climbing Skills teaches kids the basics, such as how to use different holds, proper footwork, and how to traverse along the wall. These foundational techniques are perfect for beginners and are a great starting point for those interested in climbing more regularly.

Specialized Kids’ Climbing Area known as the Party Wall is where all the fun takes place. It’s designed specifically for children, with imaginative holds and routes that promote creative movement and exploration while keeping things age-appropriate and safe.

Whether your child has climbed before or is brand new to the sport, the Kids Climbing Festival is a fun, low-pressure way to explore indoor climbing in a welcoming environment.

Know Before You Go

To help you have a smooth and enjoyable experience at the Kids Climbing Festival, here are a few things to keep in mind before you arrive.

Fill Out Your Waiver: Every participant and spectator needs to have a waiver on file. Save time at check-in by completing it ahead of time on our website. It only takes a few minutes and helps get your child climbing sooner.

Wear the Right Clothes: Kids should wear comfortable, athletic clothing and sneakers that allow for easy movement.

Supervision Required: An adult  must remain on site for the duration of the event. You’ll be able to cheer on your child and speak with staff about future climbing opportunities.

The Gravity Vault in Melville is proudly teaming up with Up ENDing Parkinson’s and Emerge Rehab to bring to you a meetup specifically for people who are affected by Parkinson’s disease. During the meetup, a Gravity Vault Staff member will be available to keep participants engaged and to belay as needed. This program runs once every month. Please sign up in advance so we know you are coming!
