Job Description:

As an instructor at The Gravity Vault Upper Saddle River, you are the face of the business and have the most customer interaction of all of our staff.  Instructors work directly under the supervision of the management team to ensure a consistent positive customer experience is reached on a daily basis.  

Job responsibilities include:

  • Using our POS system to check in customers and answer any questions they may have in person or over the phone.
  • Assisting customers with membership and retail sales.
  • Belaying for private sessions, youth and adult classes as well as parties.
  • Ensuring safety of both staff and customers within the facility.  
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the facility by assisting with opening and closing cleaning procedures.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
Requirements: 
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Availability: Tuesday mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Climbing experience is a plus but not required. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.
  • Experience working with kids is strongly preferred.

Assistant Team Coach
Job Category: Junior Climbing Teams
Job Description:

The Gravity Vault Upper Saddle River is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Team Coach to support the development and training of our Youth Climbing Teams. In this role, you will collaborate with head coaches to implement structured training programs, lead engaging practices, and mentor climbers as they progress in skill, confidence, and competition. This is a hands-on opportunity to inspire young athletes, promote a love of climbing, and contribute to a positive team culture aligned with The Gravity Vault’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and supervise youth climbers during scheduled team practices.
  • Motivate and mentor athletes to help them achieve personal and competitive goals.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and growth-focused team environment.
  • Ensure all practices and activities are conducted in accordance with safety standards and The Gravity Vault’s values.
  • Attend competitions with the team.
  • Communicate with athletes and parents regarding goals, progress and events.
Qualifications:
  • Competition climbing experience.
  • USA Climbing Coach Certification.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience coaching youth in climbing or another individual/team sport.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches and gym staff.
  • Saturday morning availability is required.

Compensation & Benefits:

Assistant Gym Manager

Job Description:

The Gravity Vault Montclair, a bouldering and fitness facility,  is looking for an energetic and motivated Assistant Manager to join our team. This position will  help deliver an exceptional bouldering experience by ensuring smooth front desk operations, maintaining high safety standards on the climbing floor, supporting staff productivity, and fostering excellent customer service.

We’re seeking a candidate with a strong background in the retail or fitness industry, and a proven track record of leadership and team management. If you're passionate about climbing, customer experience, and working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the management team to recruit, interview, and train staff.
  • Oversee daily facility operations, ensuring a smooth flow of classes, events, and customer activity.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to staff, monitoring progress and performance to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and constructive feedback to team members to foster professional growth and maintain high service standards.
  • Manage employee schedules, ensuring appropriate staffing levels for all shifts and adjusting coverage based on business needs.
  • Promote operational excellence and consistently strive to exceed customer expectations
  • Handle event bookings, process final payments, and coordinate logistics for groups and private functions.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer and staff concerns, working to resolve issues effectively and maintain a positive environment.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with both staff and senior management by reporting on shift activities, challenges, and achievements.
  • Reconcile daily cash transactions, manage end-of-shift cash counts, and prepare bank deposits in accordance with company procedures.
  • Enforce and uphold all safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for both customers and employees.
  • Other managerial duties as assigned. 

Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory role, preferably within the retail or fitness industry.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively through sound judgment and problem-solving.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification required.
  • Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification preferred.
  • Availability to work Sunday -Thursday schedule as well as select holidays as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Full-time salaried position with an annual starting salary of $44,000
